Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine
Starting my trip from Ukraine, I filled out all the applications I could, sent a few emails. Just before leaving, I was contacted by volunteers who offered accommodation.
I did not know at that time that I was in contact with a man named Harry. He spoke kindly to me and offered for a short time to stay at his house. I am grateful to him for his help, but the fact that he had only one bedroom and the other bed was without a mattress. He was a very good, kind man and gave us his bedroom. I do not know how but he slept in another room where there was no bed, I was uncomfortable with this arrangement. I thought that because of us he should not sleep uncomfortably in his own home.
Harry is from Greece, he settled in Prague working for an IT company. I asked why he wanted to help, he said that his grandfather also asked for shelter in another country, and taught him kindness to such people. I could not sit idly by because my son and I are far from home in a new country, without money, moving was unpredictable, and I had no savings. I was ready to work and take on any job so I realized that I needed to move on.
I started writing to fill out questionnaires again, and once again volunteers contacted me. This time I was advised there is a family that has already helped accommodate several families from Ukraine. I was asked what exactly I need for a home, I did not expect this. The only thing I asked for was a place where I would not interfere with a small child, and that I would like to live there for at least 2-3 months; I hoped that the war would end soon and we would return home.
When I first met Amity, a blonde graceful woman stood in the foreground, I saw sincerity and confusion in her eyes at the same time, but the language of movement was confident and steadfast. Then I realized that this is the person who will support my little family in the Czech Republic. Our communication was quite easy and not forced, it seemed that we understood each other at first sight; to be honest I can not describe the situation, I was so scared and calm at the same time that all feelings mixed, on the way home we talked, cried, supported each other, as if former friends or even relatives. As if we are close friends who met after several years of separation.
Amity was not immediately for me. I was lucky enough to meet a man who later connected me to Kimberly.
Kimberly, you are a wonderful strong woman, I wish you all the best. It was Kimberly who met us and placed me in a beautiful house. She took care of absolutely everything, down to the last detail. From a sponge for washing dishes to a soft blanket for the bed. Yes, it’s true, it’s not always things from the shop windows, but also things that people gave from their children. We are grateful for everything and appreciate it every day.
I remember when I arranged kindergarten for my son; winter was not over, I’m like every mother worried that my son had enough warm clothes. You won’t believe it but the next morning Kimberly was on the doorstep with two huge packages of things. Kimberly and Amity, it was just what I needed at that moment, for me it was a real miracle.
So reading my story you will think that clearly something special occurred here, but believe me, the support that Amity gives us and the care can not be described in simple words. Their smiles, sympathy, feelings, support, and thoughtful actions make a difference. I thank the Almighty for meeting such wonderful people on our difficult path, I bow low to each of you and thank you for everything.
